Atoms and Molecules- Computer Simulation of the Rutherford Experiment

Computer Simulation of the Rutherford Experiment

Description: PC programs that illustrates the Rutherford experiment.  Particles are shot through gold foil and are deflected as they get closer to the nucleus. The trajectory of the particle beams can be changed to show different angles of deflection.

Rating:

Hazard: Low

  • Simulation
  • Electric shock hazard

Effectiveness: Average

  • Results are observable with guidance
  • Good connection from demo to course material
  • Time to results is medium
  • Good reliability

Difficulty: Medium

  • Procedures with  intermediate steps to results
  • Prior practice recommended
  • Some concerted manipulation of parameters
  • Simple manipulations for most to perform

Safety Precautions:
